Dzi Gervacio embraces new challenge as Nxled Chameleons Team Manager

Angeline Marie “Dzi” Gervacio is no stranger to Philippine volleyball. From her days as a star player in Ateneo’s iconic “Fab Five” to her leadership roles across collegiate and professional teams, she has consistently brought passion, insight, and excellence to the sport. Now, she embraces a new challenge — this time, not as a player but as the team manager of the Nxled Chameleons in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

For Gervacio, stepping into this role is more than just a career move — it’s a continuation of the journey she began years ago in the collegiate ranks.

“I just saw this as an opportunity to grow further what I already planted in the collegiate division and to see how I can take that to the next level,” she shared. “I’ve worked and played with some of these girls already, and I just want to take what I’ve learned in the collegiate level and take it to the professional level. I’m pretty much excited about that.”

The player-turned-manager brings with her a wealth of experience — not only as a former UAAP standout and professional athlete, but also as a volleyball program director at Far Eastern University (FEU), where she has helped guide both indoor and beach volleyball teams to competitive finishes in the UAAP. That same leadership and developmental mindset is what she now brings to Nxled — a team currently in a rebuilding phase.

“I know that the Nxled team is in a rebuilding phase. As much as it sounds very challenging, I always see challenges as opportunities,” she said. “I’m just excited more than anything to paint this blank canvas once again that has been entrusted to me, and I know for a fact that I’m surrounded by good people. Coach Ettore is here. Sir Chris and Gian also are here to help build, manage, and make sure that we build a champion team in the future.”

Throughout her professional career, Gervacio suited up for several teams, including the Perlas Spikers, Foton Tornadoes, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, and the reigning All-Filipino Conference Champions, Petro Gazz Angels. For the former Best Opposite Spiker in the 2018 PVL Reinforced Conference, her stints with various PVL teams allowed her to absorb different systems, philosophies, and team dynamics — all of which now influence her approach as a team manager.

More than the wins and accolades, her focus is on building a strong, inclusive team culture — one that reflects her own values as an athlete and a leader.

“I think the culture will be to develop a space where it is safe not just for the athletes but for everybody else in the whole Nxled-Akari Sports group,” she said. “It resonated so much for me because as an athlete, I was once in their shoes. I know for a fact that if the group is safe to share my vulnerabilities, my thoughts, my ideas, and myself, I think the numbers and the wins will follow.”

Still, she makes no secret of her ambitions.

“The goal is to win, nothing else,” she declared. “But I know there’s gonna be a lot of steps taken towards that goal, and I’m just really excited for what’s in store for the Chameleons.”

As she steps into this new chapter, fans of the Chameleons and Philippine volleyball as a whole can look forward to a future shaped by her unwavering commitment, deep understanding of the game, and bold vision for what a professional team can become.

With a blank canvas in front of her and a strong foundation behind her, she’s ready to help Nxled paint a masterpiece.
